Hebrews & Us – Part 3

I went for a run earlier, and while I was out on the road, I prayed that this post would speak so some people. Some people who have questions and need the right answers. It is usually my intention to teach, and I hope that my posts bless people, but I feel that today God has specific people in mind that need to hear this.

Today we take a look at Hebrews 3. Read the chapter and then take a look at my thoughts below. We start off by reading about Jesus, and that is a very good place to start, as Jesus is the start of everything. Then we read a verse that is partly exciting and a little scary, the second part of verse 6. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ. It is amazing how one word can change a tone of a sentence. IF. There are so many times in scripture where we see a promise from God and then and IF, followed by conditions. Why is this? Is God making us work for our blessings? The short answer is no. You see there are spiritual laws. Not like the 10 commandments, but spiritual laws. In this one, if you keep your courage and remain confident in your hope in Christ, then you are God’s house. That would imply that if you don’t, you’re not. Now I am not teaching works without faith, I am not saying that God’s love is dependant on our actions, I am saying that we have a responsibility. Are you taking your responsibility seriously?

Take a look at verses 12 to 14. Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Again, more conditions. We are so quick to claim God’s part of the ‘deal’, but do we ever stop to think about ours? People sometimes ask me why we should stop sinning if Jesus has forgiven all of our sins. This is why. We don’t want to give the enemy a stronghold. We do not want to be deceived by sin. We are also called to warn each other about the dangers of sin and unbelief, and that is what I am doing now. Here is the interesting part, not many people will have an issue of the idea about turning away from sin, but what about unbelief? If you’re not sure what unbelief is, it is ANY idea or thought that opposes the word of God. I have spoken about this with regards to healing, but any thought that opposes what we believe to be true from the Bible, is unbelief. God says that He loves you, so when you feel that he doesn’t or if your circumstances suggest that He doesn’t, that is unbelief. Now we all sin, but I’m going to take a guess here and say that most (if not all of us) will struggle with unbelief more so than sin.

I am not going to start preaching about the end of the world, but I don’t believe that we are too far off Jesus returning. Even if we are far from Christ returning, do you know how much longer you’ll be on the earth for? We need to be turning from sin, we need to be moving into what God has called us to, we need to be studying the scriptures and putting these spiritual truths into practice in our lives. Faith comes through hearing and hearing the word of God. Unbelief opposes faith. Yes we need faith, but we need to eliminate unbelief. Take a look at the father who’s boy was delivered by Jesus. He said that he had faith, and asked Jesus to help him with his unbelief. Get rid of unbelief. Jesus then went and told the disciples to fast, which would help them to remove demons like that. Another spiritual law.

God does not need your works to love you. All he needs to save you is for you to ask. He does need our obedience and faith however, in order to use us fully for what He has called us. We will only fully receive what He has in store for us, when we follow Him properly with faith and obedience. This is the mission that I am on, and I would love you to join me.

Let’s do this and do it properly.

Hebrews & Us – Part 1&2

Today I would like to start having a look through Hebrews. I often see verses quoted from the book of Hebrews, and there are some absolute gems, so I wanted to take a look at the book in more detail. Today we start with the first 2 chapters, so go ahead and read them, then take a look at my thoughts.

What strikes you from the first 2 chapters? Yes, it explains who Jesus was and what He did for us, but that is not the part that caught my eye. What caught my eye was how many times the words spoke, or spoken, came up. God has spoken to us, and so has Jesus, so what is so exciting about that? Take a look at the first part of Chapter 2, warning us not to neglect salvation. Words. God has spoken words to us. Jesus is referred to as the Word of God. How did God create the earth? Words. Why did/does God get people to prophesy? Words. Even us accepting salvation comes down partly to words. God has shown us just how important our words are, but do we do anything about this?

I have written a post before about the importance of our words, but I heard an interesting sermon this morning by someone with a prophetic ministry, so I would like to share some of that. What was preached this morning fits in nicely with the scripture that we have just read, so let’s take a look at it. The main point of the sermon was that Jesus said that ‘it was finished’, but actually it was only truly finished once Jesus had died and rose again. The preacher came to the conclusion that Jesus was speaking a prophesy. He was declaring that it was finished, in order to bring completion to it. We were then encouraged to speak things ‘finished’ in our lives, so that we could see more of God’s blessings. Now I’m sure that there are some of you who may have an issue with this, but I don’t. I believe that the power of life and death is in the tongue. I believe that we have the power to speak negative or positive things into our lives. What are you speaking into yours? What are you saying that does not fit into the word of God? How do your words differ to those of Jesus?

I often see this with healing. People will come and tell me that they fully believe that they will be healed if I command it in their lives, however they then proceed to tell me how they have had this illness for years and they will probably have it all their lives. So what do you actually believe then? I had a woman ask me to command healing in her neck last week. She said that if I told it to go, it would. She didn’t know me, but she knew the Word of God. I told it to go and she said, although she felt no change, she knew that she would be healed and that she would have a testimony by this week. The pastor asked me what I thought, and I said that she would be healed. Her words matched the words of God. I saw her today, and she told me that the pain was gone, and she hasn’t felt this good in years! Now don’t start writing to me telling me that you know someone who believed and was not healed, just listen to what I am saying. Does what you believe, line up with what you say and what you do, and does all of that line up with the word of God? That is what we need to do. Get all of them on the same page.

The centurion who asked Jesus to heal his daughter understood this. He knew that Jesus just had to say the word and it would happen. Jesus commended him for that. Do you realise that that same authority has now been given to us? I’m telling you now, if we can all grasp this (and I include myself, as I have a long way to go yet), we can change the world. We will see more miracles, and we will see the Will of God on earth as it is in heaven!

So, next week, as you continue with your life, remember this. Think about what you say. Make sure that what you say, is what you believe, and make sure that you believe the word of God. Let us all start to speak the word of God in our lives, and speak the enemy out. Why wait for someone with a prophetic ministry to come and speak into your life, read what scripture says, and then speak it into your own life.

God bless.

Deception and the Power of Choice

Having had the opportunity to do some ministry this weekend, I have noticed something which I feel is relevant to us all. This is not a new truth for me, but it is something that I tend to forget at times and drop the ball, so it was good to see it again. This weekend I have commanded healing in someone’s life, given advice to a couple working on their marriage, stood with someone in prayer as they felt that they were under spiritual attack and heard a cracking sermon about faith and belief. Now what is the common thread here? The common thread comes down to faith.

I have written a few posts on healing, but the bottom line is that it comes down to faith. When the woman touched Jesus’ clothing, He said that her faith had healed her. She believed that she would be healed. She even risked her life to receive her healing. Now before you get all angry with me, take a look at my series on why people don’t get healed, it is not just about faith but it is impossible to please God without faith. Whether it is healing that you need or overcoming demonic ‘attack’, I would deal with them the same way. What is the devil’s biggest ‘skill’? Lying. He is the father of all lies. His main way of attacking Christians is to lie to them. We need to look at what the Bible says is truth, and then believe that, not the devil’s lies.

Here are some of the lies that the devil has tried to get me to believe, in the last few weeks. “Your business will fail, people don’t respect you, you won’t make money, you’ll never be healthy, they are plotting behind your back, your ministry won’t work, God is not listening, God is punishing you, you will fail. What does the Bible say? None of what the devil or his demons tell me is true. Who do I believe? You see we have free will, and this is often our downfall, we get to choose who and what we believe. Faith comes through hearing, and hearing the Word of God. Read the Bible, learn God’s truth and then believe that.

We are bombarded every day by lies, we need to know the Word of God, and we need to make the choice to believe it. When you feel overwhelmed by anxiety, what does the Word of God say? When the doctor says that it is terminal, what does the Word of God say? When the world says that you will fail, what does the Word of God say? When logic says to hold onto your money so that you’ll have enough, what does the Word of God say? When society says that you are not important, what does the Word of God say? What lies are you being told, and what does the Bible say? Which one will you believe? The choice is yours!

That is all I want to say today, I just want to encourage you all to renew your mind, and believe what God says is truth, not what we are lead to believe by the enemy. The choice is yours, make the right one!

God bless.
