Make Your Mark – Part 13

Ah, end times. I knew that I would eventually have to write about this, but I must say that it is not my favourite topic. Now I know that it is a bit scary, and that is why I don’t like to dwell on it, but that is not really the point of it. It tells us about some horrible things that will happen, but the reason why it tells us about this, is to assure us of Jesus’ second coming. You see if the Bible didn’t warn us about these things, we may be tempted to start to doubt that Jesus is still coming. We might even start to doubt God. Have you ever heard anyone saying, “If there is a God, why does He let all of this bad stuff happen?”? I have, often. Let me point out a few points, and just calm us all down a bit.

Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ I have heard this verse quoted so many times, to speak out against so many preachers. Let’s make this clear, this refers to people who claim to be the Messiah, not those who teach. That is why Jesus tells us how He will come. At that time, after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great power and glory. Here is what you can take home from that. If this doesn’t happen, then it is not the Messiah. Simple. If all of this does happen, I guarantee you that there will be no doubt in anyone’s mind that this is Jesus. Just make sure that you are ready.

There are bits in this passage, that I would rather not dwell on, like this one. For there will be greater anguish in those days than at any time since God created the world. And it will never be so great again. This is not here to scare us, it is here to give us hope. Whatever happens, how ever bad it gets, God has not forgotten about us, He still loves us. Jesus is still coming back again. This is supposed to encourage us. Jesus is telling us this so that we will recognise the end times, and hopefully it will keep us ready for His return. What affect does it have on you? Does this inspire you to be ready, or does it just scare you? Here is Jesus’ reason for telling us this stuff. Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that his return is very near, right at the door.

There is one more point that I would like to make, please don’t listen to nutters who claim to know when the end of the world will happen. They don’t. However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. Not even Jesus knows the exact day that He will be coming back. Anyone who gives a date for Jesus’ return is at best a fool. Don’t listen to them. Does this mean that you should ignore Jesus’ return? No, just don’t believe people who give a date. We have some crazies out from time to time, giving exact days, just ignore them. So, if we don’t know the time and day, but we know that we are in (or at least approaching) the end times, what do we do? And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert!

Make sure that you are ready. Get on with what God has called you to do, make sure that He is Lord of your life. Have no regrets when He returns.
